McGregor opened with a kick-heavy southpaw attack, mixing body kicks, low kicks and an early left hand while Poirier stayed patient. The fight changed when Poirier forced the grappling and McGregor jumped for a guillotine, letting Poirier settle on top instead of defending back to open space. From there Poirier's pressure, elbows and posture control won the hard minutes, even with McGregor throwing from his back. They returned to the feet late, but McGregor stepped back awkwardly in the final exchange, suffered the lower-leg injury, and the doctor stoppage made Poirier the trilogy winner at the end of the round.
