Alvarez is one of the more unusual long-frame submission threats the UFC has rostered in the lower weight classes. At 6-foot-2-plus with a 77-inch reach and a game built around guillotines, triangles, brabo chokes and opportunistic knees, he creates awkward problems the moment opponents overextend or let him start climbing through transitions.
The risk is built into the same style. Alvarez has finished almost every win of his career, but he has also been hittable in open exchanges and easier to pressure once stronger wrestlers force him off the back foot. His 2024 surge through Elves Brener and Drakkar Klose, followed by the welterweight debut win over Vicente Luque, made him feel like a rising action fighter again before Amosov's grappling shut that momentum down at UFC 328.
