The best of Emmers's night came first. He hurt Sabatini early with a pair of right hands and a left behind them, and as the fight went to the mat he looked for the finish. Sabatini cleared his head on the ground, the two opened a duelling leg-lock exchange, and Sabatini got there first for the heel hook at 1:53 of the opening round.

Emmers had the better of round one, especially late. After nearly two minutes of feeling each other out the pair began mixing it up, and a short Emmers jab put Erosa down momentarily — but Emmers was unable to follow up. Erosa came out for the second on the front foot, backed him on to the fence, and a partly blocked left high kick dropped Emmers, with the follow-up punches ending it at 1:10.
