Michael Chandler
Vitals
The Read
Chandler is an explosive, pressure-first wrestler-boxer: a former three-time Bellator lightweight champion who built his name on heavy overhand rights, big slams and relentless cardio. He throws himself into every exchange, which makes him perennial Fight-of-the-Year material — his wars with Gaethje and Poirier are among the best in UFC history — but the same all-out style leaves him hittable. He absorbs more significant strikes per minute (4.52) than he lands (4.04), and his striking defense sits at a low 43%, so durable, accurate strikers tend to catch him as he wades in.
Going into Ruffy he is on the worst stretch of his career: 1-4 in his last five, with three straight losses (Poirier sub, Oliveira decision, Pimblett TKO) since his lone recent win, the 17-second front-kick KO of Tony Ferguson in 2022. At 40 he gives up roughly a decade to the 29-year-old Ruffy, a sharp, rangy counter-striker, and the questions are stark: can Chandler's wrestling neutralise Ruffy's straight punching before he gets picked apart, and is the famous chin still there after the Pimblett beating? He remains dangerous in any round he can land the right hand or get the fight to the mat, but he is a clear underdog here.
